For younger children we have a Junior Church which meets every Sunday at 10 a.m.  The children have great fun learning together across in the school and our leaders are both trained teachers.

As well as the normal stuff the children also prepare items to be used during the worship in church.  These include Nativity plays at Christmas and sketches for Mothering Sunday, among other things.

For older children up to 16 years we run Spl@t, a youth club, at Mobberley Methodist Church, Faulkners Lane, fortnightly on Monday evenings, otherwise known as Spl@t Nights.  The club meets from 7.30 - 9 p.m.

Sunday School

Sunday School resumed after the Christmas holidays on the 21st January with a slightly different look! Those at our Plough Sunday 10 a.m. service will have seen our Sunday School leaders and Spl@t leaders being commissioned in their ministry for this year ahead.

In terms of leadership we had both farewells and welcomes. After… quite some years we have said goodbye to Philippa Mort as a Sunday School leader. Alongside Michelle Briggs Philippa has done sterling work keeping the Sunday School going and organising interesting activities for all the children. We send Philippa our heartfelt thanks for all that she has contributed over the years. However, as one door closes other doors open and we were delighted to welcome the addition of two new leaders, Deborah Hinson and Sue Roberts. They, along with Michelle, make up our teaching staff. Many of you will know Sue however Deborah is quite new to the St. Wilfrid’s family and we welcome them, and thank them, both for agreeing to help in this important work.

Another change at Sunday School is the introduction of teaching material produced by Scripture Union. These booklets contain many useful ideas and resources and enable those with no teaching experience to feel confident enough to lead a lesson. We hope that the children enjoy the new range of material and activities.

To comply with Child Protection legislation we now need one leader and one helper with the children each week. The helper is required to assist with activities but will not need to do any planning or teaching. If you feel you would like to help on one or two Sundays during the year please let the Rector know. No previous experience is required and there is no upper age limit, however you must be over the age of eighteen!

Spl@t

Spl@t resumed on the 8th January with a New Year special. Slightly less mess was generated than at the Christmas Party! (Mess largely being a natural by-product with kids).

Having lost most of our sixteen and seventeen year olds after the summer holiday (I say lost but they might just have slipped down the back of the sofa) we have been delighted to welcome several new younger members over the last few weeks. We now have a regular attendance of around fifteen energetic members and six (slightly less energetic) leaders and helpers. Our team consists of Ian, Richard Byass, Phil Roberts, Sue Roberts, Jo Casserley and Bess Barry (who does a wonderful job supplying and serving cakes, fruit and tuck).

We have regular leaders meetings to agree the forth coming terms programme taking account of any special celebrations that might be around, however we keep making the unfortunate mistake of allowing Ian to draw up the actual list of dates and titles. Bearing this in mind please be aware that events for the coming term include: Pancake Pandemonium, Take a Leek (don’t ask), Hug a Mummy and St George Shenanigans!

If you know anyone aged eleven to seventeen who may be interested please pass on their name to the Rector.
